Become involved!

From its inception, RESOLANA has depended on the dedication and talent of its volunteers. An amazing community of women supporting other women has grown behind and beyond bars. You will find there are many rewarding ways to become involved in RESOLANA.

No matter how you choose to support RESOLANA’s mission, you can be sure that your gifts of time and talent will make a world of difference to many women’s lives.

RESOLANA welcomes volunteers both outside and inside the jail.

Outside the jail our organizational support teams range from Funds Development and Community Awareness to Technology Management and Human Resources.

Inside the jail our program support teams are organized under five broad categories: Mental Health, Life Skills, Creativity, Wellness and 12 Step Recovery.

Volunteers inside the jail must be adult females (DCJ rules prohibit male volunteers on women’s floors) and are subject to jail clearance processes. Most program volunteers are assimilated gradually, first attending open workshops, and then serving as “helpers” in classes or workshops led by experienced facilitators.

Currently, many new opportunities for volunteers are opening up at Dallas County Jail where RESOLANA has been asked to expand into a full-time program in a dedicated space in the jail’s new South Tower addition.

Here’s what to do if you are interested in volunteering for RESOLANA:
  • Sign up for our mailing list if you simply want to keep in the loop about RESOLANA’s ongoing events and activities.

You can also use this link to request more detailed information about the many RESOLANA organizational and program support teams that you can join.

  • Consider visiting an open workshop at Dallas County Jail. Email contact@resolana.info for the current schedule and available time slots.

Open workshops are planned so that visitors can be easily integrated into the activities and provide a great introduction to the unique jail environment and to the women we serve. There is no better way to understand RESOLANA’s mission.

  • Download our Volunteer Application. Print, complete and sign the form and send it to RESOLANA.

This form is required of all volunteers and includes liability and confidentiality agreements.

  • Download Dallas County Jail’s clearance paperwork. Print, complete and sign the form and send it to RESOLANA.

Please note that this form authorizes the jail to conduct a background check that is mandatory for all jail volunteers.

  • Attend RESOLANA’s Volunteer Training. Email contact@resolana.info for the monthly training schedule.
Throughout this process, RESOLANA will work to connect you with the team(s) that best match your interests, qualifications and availability.

In old New Mexican usage, “resolana” refers to the sunny side of the plaza, where the village elders would sit next to adobe walls warmed by the sun and the community would naturally gather. Our intention is to create such a space for women behind the walls of the criminal justice system – a place of learning, empowerment and safe community.

“The first time I came because I was invited. I keep coming back for the sheer joy of being with the women.”
