In the spring of 2009, Resolana celebrated an important milestone: the first class in our own sparkling new classroom in the recently opened Kays Tower at Dallas County Jail . . . and the beginning of an exciting period of growth and transition for Resolana.
Resolana was invited to develop and implement a comprehensive program for women in this dedicated program area in the new addition to the jail's Lew Sterrett facility late in 2008. This invitation represented a powerful endorsement of our work at Dallas County Jail and an amazing opportunity for Resolana to dramatically expand the services offered to female inmates, building on a small but robust existing program.
Guided by research into the gender-specific needs of incarcerated women, Resolana has designed a holistic, woman-centered program in which women can affirm their strengths, confront their addictions, work on breaking old destructive patterns, and witness what it means to be an accountable adult.
Resolana's programming emphasizes the core issues underlying addiction because, unless these issues are addressed, women have little chance of living a full and productive life and other programming designed to rehabilitate them is likely to be ineffective.
Today, Resolana provides about twenty hours of classes every week. The number of women inmates requesting to participate in the program far exceeds the available slots.
At the invitation of Parkland Hospital's mental health team, Resolana has also begun taking yoga and creativity workshops into the West Tower, where women with mental health problems are housed.
Resolana is now poised to become the in-jail component of a continuum of services for women that will extend from the county's specialty courts into the county's Judicial Treatment Center (JTC) in Wilmer. We are in the process of forging a partnership with key Dallas County judges and probation officials so that women who are court ordered to substance abuse treatment will participate in Resolana's program while waiting for a slot to open at the county treatment center.

“The Resolana group does a superb job with the female inmates with every class and workshop they do from Art to Yoga! They are the most popular and demanded program we have. We are very lucky to have them on board with us!”

"Resolana classes motivate, encourage, educate and nurture. I used my time at Dallas County Jail safely and productively and received tools to last a lifetime."
